ATLAS JOINS HURRICANE KATRINA RELIEF EFFORTS
9.7.05
Atlas Model Railroad Company, Inc., and Atlas O President Diane Haedrich, along with her husband, Atlas Chairman of the Board Thomas W. Haedrich, have joined thousands of others around the nation in offering assistance to those affected by Hurricane Katrina in Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi.
On behalf of their model railroad companies, the couple has donated $10,000 in cash, to be sent to the American Red Cross. In addition, Atlas is adding a list of valid assistance organizations to its website, www.atlasrr.com, so visitors may contact these agencies to offer assistance of their own.
As time and need progresses, Atlas pledges to continue to offer assistance to the relief effort, and is currently researching and assessing the most beneficial and cost-effective options. Employees will also be enlisted in Atlas’ efforts.
Personally, the Haedrich family purchased requested goods identified by relief agencies within days of the disaster, and brought them to a local drop-off center in New Jersey for shipment to the affected areas. They urge others who want to donate to visit Atlas’ websites, or contact bona fide social service agencies to be sure their donations of monies and requested goods are delivered to the most needy areas in the most efficient and rapid methods possible.
Organizations such as the American Red Cross have indicated donations of cash are the most effective, as organizing and shipping goods to other states can be more costly than purchasing the items in those states. While citizens are eager to donate clothing, food and other items, agencies have lists of specific items, such as clean, packaged underwear and socks, personal hygiene packets, and toiletries, available for those who wish to donate.
Atlas, a family-owned company with over 50 years experience in manufacturing quality model railroad products in HO, N & O Scales, is proud to be part of the relief effort, and encourages its customers, distributors, dealers and suppliers to join in helping victims of the Hurricane Katrina Disaster.
