In the 1950s, FGE started to build 40’ and 50’ insulated box cars for lease to its member railroads. Sometimes called “grocery cars”, these box cars carried a wide variety of reporting marks. These cars lacked refrigerating equipment but were insulated well enough to keep loads cool even on warm days.
