Santa Lands in Maywood

Just days before the start of his annual global journey, Santa
Claus found time in his busy schedule to visit with scores of children
who came to the restored, historic Maywood Station in Maywood, N.J.
for its 5th annual “Santa at the Station” event.
Eager youngsters and their parents were lined up around the block
for a chance to share their wish lists with Santa, enjoy free cookies,
and have a chance to win several donated items raffled off that
day. Each child was given a free raffle ticket to bid for the item
of their choice, as well as goodie bags filled with donated coloring
books, model railroad catalogs and more.
Atlas makes an annual donation to add to Santa’s sack. This
year, it was something extra-special - an HO Trainman® Train
Set, created especially for the occasion by Rob Pisani of the Atlas
HO Research & Development Department. Rob is a member of the
Maywood Station Historical Society, (MSHC), and assisted in the
station’s restoration. (Atlas will offer its first official
HO Trainman® train sets in 2007.)
The lucky winner of the Atlas HO Trainman® train set was a
young man from Maywood, seen posing here with Santa, who some remarked
bore a strong resemblance to a certain local mayor.
“The members really enjoy and look forward to this event,”
Rob said. “It not only celebrates the holiday by entertaining
the children of the community, but it gives everyone a chance to
come, share in and enjoy all Maywood Station has to offer. From
its historically accurate and aesthetically beautiful restoration,
to the N-scale model railroad layout under construction in the adjacent
caboose, Maywood Station has become a gem of the community, and
a place where the entire family can learn more about the town of
Maywood, the New York Susquehanna & Western Railroad, and their
place in American Railroad history.”
