| A test shot of the Ford® police car. |
Designed for the model railroader seeking attractive models at a great price, this newest line of 1968 and 1970 Masterpiece Automotive Replicas feature the same high-precision tooling and craftsmanship found on our premium models. Distributed exclusively by Atlas, they are expected to arrive in January 2008.
Included in this Main Street first run is the 1968 Plymouth Fury Sedan, often utilized as a Sheriff’s Department vehicle, and the 1970 Ford Custom Sedan, a well-known police car. “Out to win you over” was the theme of Fury advertisements at the time for this vehicle, which came in 27 versions.
In addition to its law enforcement work, the Ford was a ubiquitous family car, fleet car, taxi and public service vehicle. Some might recall commercials calling it, “The Going Thing.” Americans bought 850,335 full-size Fords in 1970, including 42,849 Custom 4-door sedans. Ford introduced the first police package in 1950 and has sold more police cars than any other American brand. Police forces had the option of getting a special engine for high-speed pursuits.

NEW HO Masterpiece Automotive Replicas
The popular line of Atlas’ first HO Masterpiece Automotive Replicas has also been expanded. Four styles were originally offered in three versions each last year. For 2008, there are five new versions of the Austro Daimler, and one new version of the walk-in van. These exquisitely decorated vehicles in prototypical paint colors (where applicable) have collector’s quality detail.
Estimated for January 2008 delivery, each includes a clear plastic display case (except for the walk-in vans). New Austro Daimlers include a 1923 6/17, and a 1929 22/70, both offered in “top up” and “top down” styles. The unique 1911 Austro Daimler 8/16 Austrian Imperial Staff Car is also included, as is one new walk-in van, decorated in black and emblazoned with the words, “Metropolitan Police Special Operations.”
Built from 1927 to 1931, the ADR series was one of the last Austro-Daimlers influenced by Ferdinand Porsche. The car was designed by Karl Rabe, Porsche's protégé at Austro Daimler. The 1923 Austro Daimler 6/17 was Ferdinand Porsche's first postwar Austro Daimler and was first shown at the 1920 Brussels Auto Show.
The Austro Daimler 8/16 Imperial Staff Car was originally built for Austrian Emperor Franz Josef with an extra-tall passenger compartment to allow the Emperor to enter without stooping; even while wearing his military helmet! This car also carried Austrian nobles and visiting foreign dignitaries.
The Walk-in Van, the first true HO scale ready-to-run model of the ubiquitous modern American van, is perfect for eras from the late 1960s to today. Our first run included an undecorated version, as well as bakery and linen service versions.
