Our founder, Stephan J. Schaffan Jr., believed that model railroading should be enjoyed by everyone, and the introduction of TRAINMAN™ is our extension of his vision. Given today’s economy, consumers’ quest for value, and families’ desires to enjoy leisure activities together, the TRAINMAN™ couldn’t have arrived at a better time!

Created from the latest CAD/CAM software, drawings and steel molds, TRAINMAN™ products are the result of painstaking research, design and development by the innovative minds at Atlas. The ATLAS TRAINMAN™ line incorporates many features desirable to modelers, detailed below. Dealers and consumers have asked for items with lower cost and sturdier details. ATLAS TRAINMAN™ is our answer to these requests.

Availability

One of the primary distinguishing characteristics of TRAINMAN™ is ongoing availability. Atlas intends to carry an inventory of cars and locomotives on a continuing basis so dealers can restock their shelves as needed, and consumers can add TRAINMAN™ cars to their layouts at their own pace, a departure from the limited edition releases of our Premium lines. The ATLAS TRAINMAN™ line will be available to all stores that carry Atlas and Atlas O brand products. “Some distributors who didn’t place initial Trainman™ orders are trying to obtain them now. As of press time, we had less than 100 pieces remaining in inventory. While we said Trainman™ products would remain in stock, we had no idea this line would be so tremendously successful. We ordered more than normal, but the positive acceptance has been overwhelming. There will be shortages. We are trying to get the factory to do a fill-in run and we will keep distributors, dealers and customers posted. The next order should arrive in early Spring. New items and re-runs will be produced to keep up with the demand.”

O Scale

The first ATLAS O TRAINMAN™ units debuted in Spring 2005, and are featured in our current Atlas O Scale Catalog, in magazine advertisements, on this website at www.atlastrainman.com, and at model railroad shows throughout the country.

The first shipments of ATLAS O TRAINMAN™ units, designed for compatibility with any O Scale 3-rail and 2-rail layout, began arriving at distributors this Fall. Features include sturdy construction, finely-molded parts with select add-on details, and same high quality wheels, couplers and die-cast trucks as our O Master line. The first units debuted to rave reviews from modelers and industry experts alike. We proudly agree with their assessments that the ATLAS O TRAINMAN™ line offers astounding value in its price range.

All 3-rail trucks are pre-drilled to accept the Adjust-A-Coupler™ system, (available separately). HO Scale

The first ATLAS HO TRAINMAN™ cars began arriving at distributors this Fall. ATLAS HO TRAINMAN™ products appear in the Fall 2005 HO & N Scale Catalog, in all our advertising and literature, and on our website.

A premier feature of the ATLAS HO TRAINMAN™ locomotive is its drive – the same as our Master Series™ in an affordable locomotive. It includes a five-pole skewed armature motor with dual flywheels, as well as separately applied hand rails and end railings. An NMRA 8 pin socket is included so that installation of a DCC decoder will be quite simple. The freight cars and locomotive versions offered in this line will be completely different from the offerings produced in Atlas Master Series product lines.

“We incorporated several popular features from our current product line, such as free-rolling trucks with metal wheels, knuckle couplers, and razor sharp painting and printing, and paired them up with completely new tooling,” said Rob Pisani, head of HO Product Development. “Most of the prototypes in the initial release have never been offered as HO-scale plastic models before. The overall level of detail will be similar to our Premium line, with ATLAS HO TRAINMAN™ having fewer separately-applied parts.”

Atlas’ reputation for accuracy will be extended to the ATLAS HO TRAINMAN™ line by putting only realistic paint schemes on a given car or locomotive to the greatest extent possible. In some rare instances, a road name may appear on the model that did not exist on the prototype. In such cases, Atlas will keep the lettering as accurate as possible. Because both the TRAINMAN™ and Premium HO lines are built to scale, and the quality of the models and decoration will be the same in both lines, items from both lines can readily be run together.
